A respectful reinvention, this historic renovation honors the past while shaping a vibrant new chapter for Newark Avenue.
142 Newark Ave
This renovation and vertical expansion of an 1870s structure breathes new life into a long-quiet corner of Downtown Jersey City. Nestled among buildings that span nearly a century of styles, the project bridges eras through a sensitive blend of preservation and contemporary expression. Six new residences rise above adaptable lower levels—designed for office use now, and possibly a restaurant in the future. Bronze aluminum fins echo the shadows and rhythm of the original facade, subtly restoring the building’s vertical presence. With its compact footprint and bold intent, this project isn’t just a renovation—it’s a dialogue between memory and modernity, adding depth and soul to the evolving cityscape.
